2021.12.03 13:27 congaroo1 The discussion around if Fantasy is literature is stupid
Let me begin by saying there is nothing wrong with liking fantasy, or considering some fantasy literature. You are fine for reading fantasy. The reason I'm making this rant is because within fantasy circles there is this weird obsession with having fantasy be called literature. Which itself is not inherently bad. The issues to me is this feeling of an all or nothing from these circles, like it's not good enough for lord of the rings t be considered literature, wheel of time, Brandon Sanderson, Malazan, all the really popular series have to included. To me this seem like egotism, as if you need all of your favorites to be considered among some of the most important works of all time.
But none of that is the real issue to me. To me the big issue is how one sided this argument is. No one in the literature community is saying that Fantasy can't be literature, in fact go on the TrueLit subreddit one of top posts on that sub is a list of the a hundred best pieces of literature, this list was voted by the community and lord of the rings is number 56. Now, a lot of people like that lord of the rings is an exception to the rule, stating that is only considered because it is old. Yes, because it is time makes works literature, especially genre titles. They need the time to really see how they will be remembered by the public and literature communities. We can already see this happening to Gormenghast and the Wizard of Earthsea, they are both being discussed within literature circles. Now here is a hard truth almost every pieces of literature is not part of a series, and in my opinion if anything is going to stop it's how many of them are part of gigantic series. How can you analyse the wheel of time when in order to get a context for a scene you need to have read six books, same thing for Malazan. Now I know what you are thinking but, Lord of the rings is. True but, lord of the rings was written as one book spilt up so it could easily be read as one, as for Gormenghast and Earthsea both of those are anthology series and can be read standalone.
Now to shift gears a bit I'm going to look at some of the common arguments made from the fantasy community as why fantasy should be considered literature:

Consider a single-CPU system with only CPU-bound tasks and assume CPU scheduling is always non-preemptive. Also, assume each task's runtime is known in advance, no two tasks have the same runtime, and that all tasks are ready at system start. Show that shortest-job-first (SJF) scheduling is the sole optimal scheduling order in terms of mean task turnaround time (where turnaround time is defined as the elapsed time from when the task enters the system to the moment the task finishes).

2021.12.03 13:27 NavComputer What did they give, what did they take?
What did they give you that you'll always have, and what did they take that you'll never get back?
For me, they somehow gave me an honest desire for understanding truth. I'm not sure I would have ever ventured into epistemology without such insistences on truth being paramount. As soon as it became apparent that their narrative was false, it took me a fraction of a second to decide that truth was more important than anything else.
What they took from me was any chance for almost all normal social youthful experiences. I clung to harmful fundamentalist views on social conservatism (sexuality, marriage, education) well into adulthood, and the arc of my path (Wife, kids, dog, eventual eldership, etc.) was cemented before I ever really had any choice in the matter.

2021.12.03 13:27 daughter-of-light How do I start tutoring?
I also posted this on LSAT but I think might get some helpful responses here from other people who have done this.
I scored a 180 on the August LSAT and am hoping to start tutoring to make a bit of extra money before law school. I interviewed with Powerscore and Blueprint, but they both ask you to sign noncompete clauses and honestly they don't pay enough - I have a full time job and plenty of teaching experience elsewhere, just not specifically with the LSAT. I also live in NYC if that's of help, and am open to tutoring in person or online.
How do I advertise myself? Craigslist? Reddit's LSATTutoring subreddit seems pretty dead. I think I have a fairly strong curriculum I could offer - I mostly self-studied & developed my own methods to improve on my weak sections. Moreover, lots of teaching experience as mentioned above on tech-related things.

Has anyone heard (I have not) how JB or Shelly or even the victims.... explain why they lied so much? Lying is a sin and now it's obvious that Ma and Pa lied in the MK interview. They lied in posts on the family social media pages. So how do they explain their sin of lying? I'm seriously curious.

Don't get me wrong, I "adore" the studio version of Ava Adore, but this live version is so raw and aggresive and fast that I am blown away every time I listen to it. Do you know of better live version than this one? https://youtu.be/8Tqjcy-VYKs?t=613

2021.12.03 13:27 Digitechnomad Portfolio update time frequency
I have been a Pro user of coinstats for approx 9 months but they have major issues updating users portfolio's and I only just found out that the update frequency for paying pro users is ONLY once every 24 hours which is no good to me, but I don't want to sign up as a paying user of Delta Pro if its updates are also still very slow, so does anyone know how many updates paying pro users get in any given 24hrs, before I shell out for another crap app please?

2021.12.03 13:27 iirxs Estrogen too low on birthcontrol?
Hi, I'm 22 and haven taken the pill for the past 3 years. Last year I started feeling weird so my GP did some blood tests. Turnt out I had the estradiol levels of a woman in her menopause. My gynaecologist however doesn't even want to see my blood work and tells me lower levels are normal when you take the pill. And I should continue the pill. However she didn't even look at the test results and didnt listen to my symptoms.
My symptoms: no libido anymore, nightsweats, depression, mood swings My estradiol level: 14 Pg/ml
She has always been very pushy about me taking the pill and continuing it. It's hard for me to believe that these levels can be healthy and don't have anything to do with my symptoms. Is this normal or not? And would it be a good idea to stop the pill since this is probably the cause.
